The Blast 2024

Miles for Kate

We're so thankful for Cook Children's and everything they have provided Kate, both during treatment and as we continue to go back every four months for check-ups.

At 5 months old, Kate was diagnosed with Wilm's Tumor(nephroblastoma), a kidney cancer that impacts about 500 young children per year. It grows quickly and was already taking up half of her abdomen. Within 48 hours, Cook Children's biopsied it, installed a port, and started chemotherapy to shrink it. After many days in the hospital and months of outpatient visits, multiple types of chemotherapy, radiation, and the removal of the tumor and her kidney, Kate was cancer-free!

We’re so excited again to be raising awareness and funds in honor of Kate and her wonderful cancer care!  The Blast is a 5k walk that brings out-of-this-world care close to home for kids battling cancer at Cook Children’s!  Each dollar raised with The Blast supports lifesaving research, treatments and programs for Cook Children’s Hematology and Oncology patients.

Join us to walk on April 6 at Panther Island Pavilion, or make a donation to support Kate as we #blastawaycancer! Your support makes a difference - thank you!
