The 24hr Waffle House Challenge

The 24-Hour Waffle House Challenge

Hey, my name is Matthew Freedman. I like dogs and coffee. I also like waffles, fantasy sports, and social media.

Recently, a number of fantasy football enthusiasts have participated in the “24-Hour Waffle House Challenge” as punishment for finishing last in their leagues. A couple of these efforts have gained national attention.

  • Michael Carsley in Georgia (CNN)
  • Lee Sanderlin in Mississippi (Twitter)

As a full-time sports media member, man of the people, and all-around degenerate, I posted a Twitter thread with my thoughts on the optimal way to approach the Waffle House challenge.

In the final tweet in my thread, I indicated that I would be willing to do the Waffle House challenge and put my theory into practice if I got 1,000 retweets — and that’s what happened.

So now I’m doing the Waffle House challenge, which I will likely livestream, and I’ve decided to do it to raise money for Cook Children’s Medical Center in Fort Worth, where I was born and attended college at Texas Christian University.

While at TCU, I was a member of the Sigma Phi Epsilon fraternity, and each year we hosted a philanthropy to raise money for Cook Children’s, so the institution is close to my soon-to-be artery-clogged heart.

If I’m going to eat a lot of waffles, I might as well do it to support kids and a great institution in my hometown.

Whether I complete or fail the challenge, I will donate money to Cook Children’s, and I hope you will too

  • Event: Eating lots of waffles

  • When: Monday, August 9, 2022

  • Where: Waffle House No. 861 in Burleson, TX, at 405 E. Renfro St.

  • Watch: Livestreams on Twitter (@MattFtheOracle)

  • Donate: You can pledge money based on the number of waffles I eat

  • Projection: 7.5 waffles

During my time at Waffle House, feel free to join me — but only if you donate to Cook Children’s and order some food: Gotta make that money and keep the wait staff happy.
